Voamos para Salvador e de lá alugamos um carro
para ir à Chapada Diamantina. Vale a pena conhecer. Estivemos por lá em 2006, e
em 2010. É uma região de natureza lindíssima, com lugares onde ainda dá para
sentir tranquilidade e curtir o visual. Como viajamos fora de temporada, estava
tudo vazio e sem filas. Segundo soubemos em época de férias escolares fica tudo
muito cheio, por exemplo, a entrada para as grutas, passa a ser feita de 10 em
10 pessoas. Pai Inácio, Salão de Areias Coloridas, Cachoeira da Fumaça, Cachoeira
do Buracão, Gruta Lagoa Azul, foram alguns pontos visitados.

Ficamos na cidade de Lençóis que é histórica
e ponto de partida para muitos passeios à grutas, cachoeiras e trilhas. Tem
alguma opção de hotéis e restaurantes também. Depois nos hospedamos na cidade
de Mucugê, que é bem menor e também histórica.
No caminho estivemos em Igatu
que é uma “cidade ruína” do tempo do garimpo na região. Muito interessante
pela localização no alto da montanha com um visual super aberto, onde a vista se
perde no infinito.

Em Mucugê visitamos o único cemitério bizantino do Brasil e também
o “Projeto Sempre Viva”, que se refere a uma espécie de flor daquela região,
que estava em extinção, e através do projeto está sendo preservada. Vimos buquês de mais de
50 anos. Ela realmente é sempre-viva!

Mergulhamos numa gruta de água cristalina
(Gruta da Pratinha) e fizemos algumas caminhadas até cachoeiras bonitas, mas
que em 2006 estavam com pouca vazão de água. Já quando retornamos, em 2010,
estavam lindas! A curiosidade desta região é que fica a mais de 1000 metros de
altitude, portanto faz frio à noite e muito calor durante o dia. Além de ter
serras lindas de se admirar.

We flew to Salvador and rented a car to go to Diamantina tableland. We had been there
before in 2006 and 2010. The region is
beautiful and the visit is filled with splendid views. In low season, it is
easier to admire nature without having to queue for the main attractions. In
high season, the number of people admitted to the caves is limited to 10 at a
time. Some of the main touristic sites we visited were: Father Inacio mountain (Pai
Inacio), Coloured Sand Room (Salão de Areias Coloridas), Smoke Waterfall
(Cachoeira da Fumaça), Blue Lagoon Cave (Gruta Lagoa Azul).

Our hotel was situated in the city of Lençois. It is a historic town
with good option of guesthouses, hotels and restaurants. It is also the starting
point to many of the touristic sites. For the rest of the visit, we chose to
stay at Mucugê, which is a smaller town with colonial architecture. On our way,
we made a stop at Igatu, which is an old mining city that was raised in cliffs.
Many of the houses were built into the rocks. It is all very interesting, but
the roads are narrow and steep.
In Mucugê we also visited the only Bizantine Cemetery in Brazil and popped
in the Sempre Viva Project park. The main goal of the project is to preserve
and make the reproduction the Sempre
Viva flower which was almost brought to
extinction due to exportation. In the small museum, there are bouquets of
Sempre Viva flower which date 50 years ago and still look impeccable.

We dived in a crystal-clear lake at Silver Cave (Gruta da Pratinha). The
waterfalls of Piabinha and Tiburtino are worth a visit too. Some of the falls
were almost dry in 2006, but in 2010 we were lucky to see them in high flow.
The region is over 1000 meters high therefore it is hot during the day but cool
at night. The mountain ranges views add up to the wonderful landscape.
